The words “Hero Pants” are taken from one of the chapters of my book. Hero pants are intended to describe someone, regardless of career, who chooses to carry every item they can possibly fit on a uniform or work clothes, giving the appearance of competence. In theory, the more items which are tucked in pockets or hanging off belts, the more a person is concerned with the image over true ability to perform a job. While a certain number of items EMS people carry in pockets or strap to their belts is necessary, there are wannabes who take this to extremes. The chapter HERO PANTS from the book by the same name pays tribute to these stylish individuals.

"Hero Pants" is a heart-warming, sobering, cantankerous, laugh-out-loud funny book about Jim Haden's 22 years on the street as a paramedic in Iowa. Alternating between the hilariously bizarre and the unbearably sad, it tells the real-life experiences, pranks and day to day working life of a veteran street medic.
